Maynard Public Schools Summer Read

Maynard Public Schools is proud to announce our annual summer read.  Teachers, administrators and School Committee members hope you will join them in reading Lost at School By Ross Greene, PhD.

Based on the premise that all kids do well if they can, Dr. Greene proposes a collaborative approach to solving behavioral challenges and helping students .  As he states, "if we handle kids with power and control, that's what we get back.  What happens if collaborate with them --as partners-- instead?"

The Maynard Public Schools will be donating several copies of this book to the Maynard Library to provide community access to the book this summer.  The School Committee will host a community discussion on October 5, 2017 at 7:30 PM.   Please join us in reading Lost at School!

Nursing Services in Maynard

I want to assure our school community that student and staff safety is of the utmost importance to the administration and School Committee.  Recently, our budget process required very many staffing decisions to reduce administrators, secretaries and custodians.  At our School Committee Meetings it was identified by parents and staff that all of these positions serve the health and wellness of our students and staff.  Unfortunately, we still have financial concerns that need to be addressed and the nurse staffing has been looked at for costs savings.

There is a lot of misinformation about the changes we are considering.  We are looking to hire full time nurses that will provide consistency in each building.  We are not changing the software system the nurses use to track student health.  The current software will interface with the new student information system.  We will have more access to substitute nurses for nurse absences and field trips than we have had in the past.  We are hopeful that the changes will actually provide increased services to our district

Savers Spanish Exchange Program Fundraiser at Maynard High School

We have a group of Spanish exchange students visiting Maynard High School this fall for about a week and we would like to be able to show them some of the local sites that make our area so special.  We hope to raise funds to help defray the cost of these activities and to help our students be able to visit the Spanish students in their homes next year as well.

Time to do some spring cleaning?  Please consider going through your closets and helping us out!  Thank you so much. We will be collecting gently used clothing, linens, shoes and small household items (no books, electronics or furniture please) on Saturday 6/17 from 9AM - 2PM in front of the high school.  There will also be a collection box in the front lobby of Maynard High School where you can drop off your donations starting June 5th.

School Pesticide Notification

This notification is being sent to you in conformance with the Children’s & Families Protection Act (Chapter 85 of the Acts of 2000).  The Act requires we notify you when pesticides are applied on the outside of public and private schools, day care centers and school age child care programs.

We are having Fowler School, 3 Tiger Drive and Green Meadow Elementary School, 5 Tiger Drive,  treated with the Sentricon Termite Baiting System in response to the presence of termites.  We selected this treatment method to reduce risk and hazard to our student population and staff.  At various times during the course of the year, the Waltham Services Company may remove monitoring devices placed below ground in plastic holding stations and replace them with baits lethal to termites.  The pesticide bait is non-volatile and not accessible or visible from above.

Please feel free to call Michelle Resendes, Maynard Business Administrator at 978-897-8251 should you have questions.

The 5th Annual Acton-Boxborough-Maynard PMC KIDS Bike Ride

This event will take place on June 4, 2017 from 8:30 – 12:00 pm at NARA Park in Acton. PMC KIDS Bike Rides became an official PMC program in 2005 as a way to include young cyclists in the Pan-Massachusetts Challenge’s mission of raising money for cancer research and treatment at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute through its Jimmy Fund. These rides enable children between the ages of 3 and 13 to ride their bikes and solicit sponsors to donate money to cancer research. 100% of all money raised at this event and by the children will go directly to Dana Farber via the PMC.

Last year we had almost 200 riders and raised over $30,000! The event will include the ride, food, multiple kid’s activities, a kid’s chance and silent auction! Ride details and rider and volunteer registration can be found at: http://www.kids.pmc.org/Acton-Boxboro.aspx.  You can also email PMCKidsAB@gmail.com with any questions. Or visit us on our PMC Kids Ride -Acton Boxboro Maynard Face book page. We hope to see you there!
