The Presidential Election

Like many of you, I spent yesterday processing the impact of Tuesday night's presidential election results for our students, families, and colleagues.  With this election, we reached the end of what has been a divisive conversation about the direction of this country.  children, like adults, can make mistakes in conversations around inclusiveness.  The faculty and staff at the Maynard Public Schools will help students to process challenging speech where they hear it so that we can continue to grow and develop as a community.

Several parents have shared articles in the Huffington Post with me that they thought would be helpful.  Last year we had Dr. Fernando Reimers as a guest speaker in Maynard on Global Learning. I thought I would share the attached link to an article he wrote for the Huffington Post:

During my six years in Maynard, I have observed a wonderful school and greater community.  In Maynard we teach global citizenship, respect, and tolerance.  We embraces all people regardless of race, color, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, national origin, age, or disability.  Our core values reflect this.  I am confident that we live in an enlightened town and state and we should take solace in that.  We will remain vigilant to protect the civil rights of everyone in Maynard.

I echo the words spoken by President Obama, Former Secretary Clinton, and President Elect Trump over the last 48 hours.  We now move forward as one people, united by common goals and dreams.  In our roles as educators and parents, we are united by the hopes and dreams that we help our children to reach for every day.  It is our task now, to protect those hopes and dreams for everyone.
