Superintendent's Notes

 Central Office/8th Grade Relocation

Many parents and staff have shared their thoughts on the 8th grade being located at MHS.  I know this is an important topic for our community.  The school committee will be discussing this topic at the next scheduled meeting on 9/29/2016.

The School Committee will be reviewing the student enrollment numbers at MHS and the considerations with moving the 8th grade out of MHS.  In order to move the 8th grade into Fowler, the Central Office will need to be relocated out of the wing that it currently occupies.

There will be more details and options discussed at the School Committee Meeting.  If you would like to participate in the discussion, please feel free to attend the School Committee Meeting at 7:00 pm in the Fowler Library.

Collaborative Town Operations

This week in Maynard, a disturbing incident  in the form of a bomb threat occurred.  I want to assure our school community that the Town Administrator, Police Chief, Fire Chief, and DPW Director have always worked in concert with the schools to provide our students and staff with the resources to combat threats and active incidents.  We have worked together to develop proactive protocols and remain committed to working together collaboratively to be as prepared as possible.

In regard to the bomb threat at the beginning of this week, this is a police matter.  It is still an active investigation and the Maynard Police Department are still seeking any information anyone might have in regard to this incident.

Cookbook Club Meets

The October meeting of the Friends of the Maynard Public Library Cookbook Club "From the Farmers Market to the Library Table" will celebrate the local apple harvest with an apple tasting and potluck lunch on Monday, October 17. Copies of the selected book, The Apple Lover’s Cookbook by Amy Traverse, are available for check-out at the library circulation desk. Participants should select a recipe that includes apples and other seasonal ingredients, prepare their dish, and bring it to the potluck lunch at noon. The group will enjoy the food, evaluate the recipes and cookbook, and talk about sources of local ingredients. The Friends will provide beverages and paper goods although participants are encouraged to be 'green' and bring their own plate and utensils. All are welcome, but please call 978-897-1010 ext: 103 to register or so that organizers know how many supplies are needed.
