A Message from the Fowler Art Teacher, Sean Perham

Six Bridges Art Gallery in conjunction with The Fine Arts Theatre, graciously hosted "Rhythms" Dance Party and Art Auction. This was a funding raising event held this past spring to help support the visual arts curriculum at Maynard Public Schools.  An evening of live music and dance was followed by a silent auction of beautifully painted and themed, chairs designed by the artists of Six Bridges Gallery.

Fifty percent of the proceeds from this auction have been generously donated to the three art teachers at Maynard Public Schools.  The support from our local community shows the importance visual arts makes in a well rounded curriculum for our students.  Like so many school systems, Maynards art program has faced many budget cuts in recent years however through the help of our community of artists; they have filled this gap by supporting of the next generation of artists.   A huge thank you is in order for Six Bridges Gallery and The Fine Arts Theatre your generosity has helped promote the creative potential of Maynard’s young artists.

Class of 1965 Donation to the Maynard High School Scholarship Fund

The photo above was taken on Tuesday when Joe Mullen, representing the Maynard High School Class of 1965, donated $200 to Principal Caragianes for the Maynard High School Scholarship fund.

The Class of 1965 was the first graduating class from our previous high school building.  As part of their 50th reunion celebration, the class of 1965 arranged a tour last Saturday through Renee Muise the Maynard High School Guidance Counselor.  She arranged for some of our wonderful students to be guides on the tour.  After taking the tour the Class of 1965 "passed the hat" and raised the funds for this contribution.

The Maynard Public Schools appreciate the support of our alumni.

The Maynard School Community Book Talk

This summer we provided copies of the book "The Smartest Kids in the World" (Ripley, 2013) to the Maynard Public Library. We encouraged our community to read this book in preparation of our discussions around the vision of Maynard Public Schools.

This Wednesday evening Jennifer Guadet held a community book talk in the Maynard High School Cafeteria.  I am pleased to report that more than 45 people were in attendance.  There were School Committee members, parents and staff from all of our schools.  I was able to help facilitate one of the table conversation and was even more pleased to find that some community members without children in the schools as well as some residents who have some children in charter schools and Maynard schools were participating.

The broad spectrum of ideas discussed will be extremely helpful as the School Committee continues there leadership of our district.
