Superintendent's Notes

The Last Day of School

Today was the last day of school for our students and I want to thank the entire school community for a wonderful 2014-2015 school year.  While the students are out for the summer, the outstanding staff in the Maynard Public Schools will be attending professional development and preparing for next year.    I hope everyone sets aside some time for rest and relaxation and has a fun and safe summer.

I always look forward to the first day of school for the students.  Next year that will be on September 3, 2015.

Community Book Study/Summer Reading

I have become so energized by my studies of international schools that I thought it might be nice if I shared a summer reading activity with our school community.  I am encouraging everyone including students, families, and educators to read the book "The Smartest Kids in the World: and how they got that way" (Ripley, 2013).  I am donating 10 copies to the Maynard Library so that they will be available later next week.

I have created a survey for our school community to share their thoughts on this book at the following link:

I believe that this survey will provide valuable community insight for the School Committee to review in the fall next year.  Again, I hope you have the chance to enjoy a good book and the rest of the summer season.

Important Events and Reminders:
In an effort to streamline the Superintendent’s Notes, I will provide important upcoming events or announcements that have already been posted in previous Superintendent’s Notes in this section.

Girl Scout Troop 72617 Collecting portable DVD players for Emerson Hospital

Do you have a portable DVD player that you no longer use?   Girl Scout Troop 72617 is collecting working, portable DVD players to be used by patients at Emerson Hospital.  The hospital has a number of DVD's for pediatric patients to watch but not enough working portable DVD players.  Our Girl Scout troop is helping to change this! You can help us by donating.  If you have a portable DVD player that you would like to donate, please contact troop leaders: Joanne Tummino at
or Stephanie Gavin at
Troop members will schedule a convenient pick up!  Thank you!
