Superintendent's Notes

Maynard High School Safety and Security

Principal Caragianes sent an email to the school community at approximately 4:00 yesterday identifying emergency vehicles have been present at Maynard High School.  Last night the media outlets have been reporting a legal matter in regard to the safety and security of Maynard High School.  The Town of Maynard has handled the release of information through an official press release at:

Principal Caragianes explained in his email that due to confidentiality requirements he could not elaborate on this matter.  At this time I cannot comment any further on the legal matter as well.

The Maynard Police Department and School Department have been working collaboratively.  There is an increased Police presence at the Maynard Public Schools.  We will continue to focus our efforts on school safety and security.

Important Events and Reminders:
In an effort to streamline the Superintendent’s Notes, I will provide important upcoming events or announcements that have already been posted in previous Superintendent’s Notes in this section.

SEPAC Support Group:  Managing Life with a Special Needs Child

Are you a parent of a child with special needs and find that daily life can wear you down?
Would you like to gather with other parents in a positive and supportive group to share feelings, perspectives, and resources?

The Maynard SEPAC (Special Education Parent Advisory Council) is creating a Parent Support Group for Parents of Children with Special Needs between the ages of 4 and 7 years old.
This confidential and interactive group will be moderated by Patty Marquis, LICSW, and will meet together for a six-week session.  The focus will be on sharing thoughts and practices in an effort to find practical, everyday “solutions” to the problems and challenges faced by a family raising a child with special needs.

Participants will discuss a range of topics including:

·         Lifestyle changes in home and family
·         Impact on marriages, family relationships, and friendships
·         Parental stress management
·         Developing a plan for effectively managing your child’s routines and behaviors

The group will meet for a six-week session on Monday mornings from 9:30 to 11:00 am at the Maynard Town Hall Community Room beginning on February 2nd.  The size of the group is limited and parents are asked to commit to attending all 6 sessions for continuity of the group dynamics.  If you are interested in the group, please contact Jessica O’Toole for more information at or 978-897-0650.

Green Meadow School Preschool Information Night

Preschool Information Night will be held on January 15, 2015.  The hours will be from 6:45 pm to 8:00 pm.  The Preschool program is NAEYC Accredited and follows guidelines from the Department of Early Education and Care.  Both Full day and half day classes are offered.

During the evening you will have a chance to view the classrooms, learn about the curriculum and meet the staff.  We welcome you to come and learn more about this wonderful program.

MHS Band and Chorus Fundraiser

The Maynard High School Band and Chorus will be having a group fundraiser at Papa Gino's in Stow on Thursday, January 15th from 4 pm to 9 pm. 20% of total sales will go to help decrease the overall costs for their trip to Washington DC in April.  A flyer must be brought in with each order.  That flyer can be found on the Maynard Public Schools website at:

This link brings you to the Documents to Download page.  On the left hand side you will see a document labeled Papa Gino's Fundraiser.pdf.  If you click on the word download you can print the flyer needed.

Both dine-in and take-out orders are included in this fundraiser.  Come bring the whole family - no cooking or dishes to be done and the band and chorus will benefit! Please note that coupons are not accepted with the flyer. Thank you for your support!
