Superintendent's Notes

Staying Connected in a Wired World:  Cyber safety and healthy online behavior Presented by the Middlesex District Attorney’s office

This presentation will be in the Auditorium, on Monday, May 5, 2014 at Maynard High School 1 Tiger Drive, Maynard, MA from 7 to 9 pm.
Many of us, including students, are using a variety of technologies every day that have truly revolutionized the way we communicate.  We all may be revealing too much information online, and our children are susceptible to cyber-bullying and online predators.
What’s a parent to do?  Join Ariana Coniglio, the Prevention and Education Coordinator for Middlesex Partnerships for Youth, to boost your understanding of the issues.  Ms. Coniglio has Masters in Public Health and experience working with youth groups around the issues of teen dating violence, bullying, and cyber-bullying.
The workshop will examine trends and take a practical approach to cyber safety and how to promote healthy behavior online.  Parents will be quizzed on Internet safety, given tips on protecting their children from online predators, and ideas on how to instill common sense behavior in their child’s digital life. The presentation is free and open to the public.
This presentation was made possible by collaboration between the Acton, Maynard and Sudbury Special Education Parent Advisory Councils.  To RSVP, please email one of the following contacts:  Acton, Nancy Sherburne at nsherburne@mindspring.com ; Maynard, Jen O’Leary at sepacchair@maynard.k12.ma.us ; Sudbury, Paula Moyer at sudburysepac@gmail.com.   You are welcome to attend any workshop in or outside of your immediate community.

SAT Preparation Support

Exciting news: We’re partnering with the College Board so that all students who want to go to college can prepare for the SAT at their own pace, at no cost.
The College Board just announced that they’re redesigning the SAT for 2016, and we’re partnering with them to make free, world-class prep materials. Know anyone preparing for the SAT? Let them know:
By spring 2015, you’ll have access to state-of-the-art, interactive learning tools that give you deep practice and help you diagnose your gaps. All of this will be created through a close collaboration with the College Board specifically for the redesigned SAT. Stay tuned.
In the meantime, if you are taking the SAT in 2014/15, you can start practicing today with hundreds of previously unreleased Math, Reading, and Writing questions from real SATs and more than 200 videos that show step-by-step solutions to each question:
Our goal is nothing short of leveling the playing field for every student taking the SAT, so please help us reach as many people as possible.
