School Committee Budget Presentations

The School Committee has had several very successful meetings this week in regard to the FY15 budget.  Unfortunately this is a difficult year and we will continue to have budgetary decisions being made at every school committee meeting for the foreseeable future.  Due to having over 100 citizens in attendance at our budget community meeting, the school committee decided to have the next few regular school committee meetings at the Fowler library.  Already on the agenda for the next School Committee meeting on March 13, 2014 is a consideration to eliminate all non-mandatory transportation costs.

In addition to their regular meetings, the School Committee Budget Subcommittee will be doing a presentation at the Board of Selectmen Meeting on Tuesday March 4, 2014.  The meeting will start at 7:00pm but the School Committee will not likely be presenting until about 8:00pm.  The meeting will be held in the Gianotis Room at Town Hall.  If the attendance is similar to the School Committee Community Budget meeting there may only be standing room.  However do not let that hinder your attendance and support of the school department budget.

As we begin our 13th year, we have raised over $200,000 and have awarded grants totaling in excess of $140,000 to Maynard educators. These grants have been utilized for Innovation and Discovery endeavors that benefit Maynard children in the classroom. We specifically look for grants that will not only benefit the immediate children within a specific class but will become self-sustaining and benefit a much broader audience for years to come. It is crucial that our students be supported to increase their competitive advantage so they are prepared for the challenges of the twenty-first century.
