Superintendent's Notes

School Committee agenda includes a presentation on Anti-Bullying presentations

Nadine Briggs and Donna Shea of the “Social Success in Schools” initiatives will be attending the September 26th school committee meeting.  They will be presenting a summary of the information they provide during their presentations to students, parents, teachers, and administrators.  They provide great information to help student understand social skill issues and how to deal with those issues when they reach the bullying standard.  They also help us to have a common vocabulary around social issues and bullying.  Feel free to come to our meeting as a preview of the full presentations that will be scheduled in our schools this year. 

MAYNARD Council on Aging Announcement 

The Fiscal Year 2014 COA Line Dancing program started on Thursday, September 19.  Lessons will be held every Thursday, from mid-September to mid or late May 2014, at the Concord Street Circle Common Room.  There will be a Beginners’ class is 1:30 PM to 2 PM, and a class for dancers with some experience is from 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM, but all are invited to join in.  Please wear loose clothing and comfortable shoes.  Ellen AuClair, a professional line dance teacher, will conduct the classes.  This is a free program sponsored by a grant from the Executive Office of Elder Affairs.

NOTE:  The Council on Aging Monthly Business Meeting has been rescheduled to Thursday, October 12, at 10:00 AM in the Town Hall, 195 Main Street, Room 201.  Three speakers are planned: Kevin Sweet, Town Administrator; Eric Smith, Town Planner; and Kevin Caruso, Director of the Maynard High School Athletic Department. The business meeting will follow.  This is an Open Meeting.

The Maynard Board of Health Senior Flu Vaccination Clinic will be provided on Tuesday, October 15 from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM at the COA Drop-In Center, in the Fellowship Hall of the Union Congregational Church on Main Street. There is no charge for this service, but please bring your Medicare and/or other Insurance cards.

Seniors’ Ice Cream Social:  On Tuesday morning, October 22, an Ice Cream Social will be held at the COA Drop-In Center.  Please call Joan Meakin at 978-897-2687 for information about the time and to reserve a place at the Social. The usual Drop In activities will also be available.  There is no charge for the Social or for visiting the Drop In which is supported by a Grant from MA Elder Affairs.

NOTE:  The November Council on Aging meeting will be held on Monday, November 4, 2013, Town Hall, Room 201, 10 AM.  The Minuteman Senior Services SHINE counselors will make a special annual presentation on Medicare.  They will explain the benefit and coverage changes which will occur in December 2013.  This is a very important and informative meeting, and we urge all Seniors to attend this meeting.  The presentation will be followed by a question and answer session.  This is an Open Meeting.
Trips to WalMart and Solomon Pond Mall will resume soon.

The Maynard Special Education Parent Advisory Council (SEPAC) invites you to attend an Update on Special Education in Maynard, presented by Jill Greene, Director of Special Education in Maynard. The presentation will take place on October 7, 2013 at The Fowler School Library, 3 Tiger Drive, Maynard, from 7:00 to 8:45 pm.
