Superintendent's Notes

Remembering Maynard’s Own Fundraiser

Remembering Maynard's Own (RMO) is sponsoring a 300/100 raffle to support the RMO scholarship fund. The fund provides financial support for Maynard High School students, living in Maynard, that want to play sports, music, WAVM, etc., but do not have the money to pay the activity fees. To date, the fund has awarded over $35,000 in scholarships since 2005.

The raffle will be limited to 300 tickets sold and the cost of a ticket will be $100 per ticket.
While this is an expensive ticket, the odds are better than the average raffle.  The grand prize is $10,000 and second prize is $5000. The rules and regulations governing the Mass State Lottery will be followed with all taxes being the responsibility of the winner. A $5000 gift will be provided to the Maynard High School Athletic Department to enhance the athletics program. The remaining $10,000 will go to RMO to fund scholarships for the 2012-13 season. The drawing will be on May 18, 2013.

If you are interested in purchasing a 300/100 ticket, please send a $100 check or money order to Remembering Maynard's Own, PO Box 268, Maynard MA 01754. You can also contact one of the board members: Mark Yanchewski (Pres), Pete Stades (VP), Diane Dahill (Sec/Treas), Mary Pillivant (Sec), Bill Poz (Board of Trustees (BOT), Susan Jarmo Carter (BOT), Mike Chambers (BOT).

May News from the Maynard Music Association-Fowler School

At the end of April, the Junior High School Concert Festival for Band and Orchestra took place in Groton-Dunstable and the Big Sing Central for Chorus took place at St. Mark's School in Southborough.  Our students are learning more about their own musicianship as well as learning from their peers in surrounding towns. They are representing Maynard in bigger venues on bigger stages and they are making us proud!

Junior Central Districts:
The Fowler School, one of 75 schools that participated, was represented in the orchestra for the Massachusetts Central Districts by Grace Wilson, on trombone. The orchestra program included the following pieces: Overture to Rienzi, Russian Sailors Dance, Norwegian Dances and Hatikvah.   For more information on Central Districts, visit our website www.maynardmusicfowler.org under "Competitions".

The Big Sing:
Many Fowler parents attended the Big Sing to hear our Fowler Harmony Choir, under the direction of Jennifer Lilley, perform three selections - Dodi Li, Aya Ngena and Green Eggs and Ham. The Big Sing is an adjudicated performance for choral students in the central Massachusetts area.  For the first time with a Fowler chorus, the students performed on a large stage in a beautiful performance hall as a small group and then performed with six other schools as a combined choir on the emotional, moving and timely selection, Give Us Hope.

39 students in grades 4-6 included: Hazelyn Aroian, Taylor Capello, Micaela Carey, Eva Charbonneau, Chloe Donovan, Aurora Estabrook, Elisa Faret-Machado, Mattie Hazel, Caroline Jordan, Graham Josephson, Luca Kramer, Jenny Livolsi, Reese Lowery, Jordan Lowery, Emma Lowery, Molly McPhail, Elizabeth Midey, Alexis Mortimer, Reilly Mulligan, Dante Naylor, Charlie Neuhauser, Carolyn Norris, Melissa O'Leary, Caitlyn O'Leary, Zoe Pepin, Lucas Pepin, Alyssa Ray, Nick Reilly, Nicholas Reiniger, Lauren Roche, Gaby Rodrigues, Gabriela Roman, Adrian Roman, Ian Sharpe, Jessica Skavicus, Molly Sullivan, Simone Tricca, Sarah Umbrell, and Lilly Wilson.

The Harmony Choir (4th-6th graders) bridges a gap in our choral offerings in Maynard.  We would love to see choral programs for this grade level to provide continuity and consistent choral instruction, for grades K-12.

Kudos to Ms. Lilley and the Fowler Harmony Chorus!!
